Overview 

This is the syllabus for the training module on Technology and Innovation in the media. This document outlines the specific outcomes of this module, as well as the required preparation and lesson outline. 

Course Objective 

You will learn to analyze and evaluate digital business models, develop the skills required to pitch and implement new business models and products and learn the tools you will need to measure performance and manage these implementations. 

You will also learn about new media tools and channels that drive viewership and revenue, from platform analytics to proprietary tech platforms and information security tools, and be introduced to current global trends and innovations in the newsroom, with specific reference to how these translate into your local environment. 

The course will immerse media viability consultants in the breadth of digital knowledge to prepare them for new and emerging media roles. It will show how innovation and technology has become a dominant way of conceptualizing organizational and cultural transformation in the 21st century.

After the training, you will be able to construct and implement a new business strategy, utilizing new digital tools and skills to expand delivery and drive sales and revenue. 

Learning outcomes

  1. Develop media innovation strategy using new media tools and channels and current global trends to drive viewership and revenue.
  2. Analyze and evaluate digital business models.
  3. Identify and minimize online security threats.
  4. Use technological tools to improve staff collaboration and productivity.
  5. Employ different tools for fact checking photos, videos, stories, social media posts and websites.

Attendance Policy

MVCs are required to attend all sessions. In the case of an emergency, MVCs must communicate with Edward Tumwine (tumwineedward@gmail.com ) the project coordinator, Ultimate Multimedia Consult. The MVCs will be expected to  complete all required activities, and submit assignments to demonstrate mastery of the course content as when given.

Post-Training Support 

Through a learner centered mentorship model, our experts will provide ongoing virtual support to MVCs, who will be training and coaching radio stations throughout Uganda. This ongoing support will continue to build MVC’s capacities as well as ensure that advice given to each media organization is nuanced, appropriate and actionable.

Requirements 

Hardware 

Laptop or desktop with functioning audio and video functions.

Face mask

Due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, we shall require all participants to wear a face mask and social distance during the training.
